Fredonia Mayor Responds to Student Newspaper Criticism
Fredonia Mayor Michael Ferguson recently addressed criticisms from SUNY Fredonia’s student newspaper, The Leader, regarding the village’s handling of Fred Fest and recent water issues. During a Board of Trustees meeting, Ferguson expressed strong disapproval of an editorial by Dan Quagliana, which criticized the village’s response to recent boil water orders.
Ferguson responded to Quagliana by saying, “It’s easy to write a poison pen article weeks before your senior graduation and leaving our community in your wake. The individuals have never addressed us with any positive suggestions on how to remedy this situation. One student said, if he knew about our turbulence in these meetings and on this water issue, he would have never come here. You don’t come to college for water, which we know you need. You go to college for an education. I’m pretty sure you got a good one while you were here.”
Regarding Fred Fest, Ferguson emphasized the improved collaboration between the village and the university, highlighting multiple meetings aimed at addressing concerns. Ferguson also defended the village’s efforts to address water system issues, stating that the current plan is focused and moving forward
