Box Office Standings of the Week

The movie Sinners, written and directed by Ryan Coogler, came out April 18th and received phenomenal reviews (98% on Rotten Tomatoes!), but what is even more phenomenal is that it stood its ground and topped the box office in its second week. NBC News states, “In its second weekend in theaters, “Sinners” earned $45 million in ticket sales from theaters in the U.S. and Canada, according to studio estimates Sunday. That’s down a minuscule 6% from its Easter holiday launch, the smallest drop in any genre since “Avatar” in 2009. Worldwide, “Sinners” has now made $161.6 million.”

Second in the box office was the 20th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, beating out the competition of The Accountant 2 with Ben Affleck. Rounding out the top 5 were two video game inspired movies, The Minecraft Movie and Until Dawn.
